Explorer Withdrawal

Postby Bill In Indiana on Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:32 am

So... Am I the only one going through CopperCountryExplorer.Com withdrawal symptoms?

Not complaining Mike & Tricia...take your time getting everything fixed. Just wanting to let you know how much it is missed.

Nope Bill, your not the only one, sad that someone had to mess with such a nice site. I'm sure this will cost a bit to fix it back up, if anything the time.
Have to make a donation to help out when the site comes back up.

I will agree that I'm suffering withdrawal also, so what happened with the site?

Sorry everyone for the withdrawals. The whole ordeal has been disheartening to say the least. It could have been worse, though, so we try to look on the bright side. We didn't lose the site and all of the information will still be there.

For those that didn't see Mike's post on CCE before we took the site down, someone hacked into the site and planted spammy invisible links. Search engines frown on invisible links so the site was punished by Google. It's how many people found CCE in the past but the hacker's links stole that from us. We've always wanted the community to grow, but if people can't find us that won't happen :(

To make sure everything that the hacker did was removed, we backed up photos, posts & comments at CCE. Then we wiped CCE clean (boy, that was a scary moment) and rebuilt everything else from scratch, including the site design and database. You may notice a few changes when it's back online - we figured we might as well take the opportunity to make the changes to the site design now. The last thing left to do is re-upload all of the photos. With over 3,000 photos (including the huge panoramics), it's taking a while.

If all goes well, CCE will be back online for tomorrow :)

Google may forgive. We have to go through a "reconsideration" process. Basically, we'll tell Google what happened and a few weeks later they take a look at the site and decide whether it should be allowed back in their searches.

The site is back online! I'm sure there may be a few oddities here and there but we'll fix them. I already see a few and Mike will work on them tonight when he gets home from work.

As always, thanks for your patience and thanks for your support! :)

Speaking of planning a CC trip, I'm attempting to put together a small CCE get-together of my own for this summer. I don't have a huge amount of details worked out yet, but I was thinking of a CCE weekend of sorts with group tours (led by me of course) of various mine ruins found throughout the area. Sorta based on the Cliff Exploration Project from last summer, which ended up being essentially a tour in the end. Curious if any of you guys and galls would be interested in such an event...
